Master of Public Administration
The MPA is a
39 credit hour professional
program that provides managerial,
communication, and human-relations skills in preparation for or
advancement in a variety of public sector or related careers. The
program offers concentrations on nonproift management, homeland
security, metropolitan governance, and general public management. The MPA
program is a NASPAA accredited program and the only program in the
Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Metropolitan region.
The NKU program includes both in-career students who work in the
Cincinnati metropolitan area and pre-career students from a variety of
background and disciplines. We specialize in professional preparation
for local government, criminal justice, and not-for-profit careers.
The MPA
program has been at NKU since Spring 1989. Currently, the NKU MPA
program features approx. 100 active students and 325 (approx.) alumni. Our active students
are mostly working professionals, balancing professional, career and
personal lives. So, the NKU MPA is a night program with classes once per
week in the evenings on Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:15 -
9:00 pm and Saturday mornings 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
The NKU MPA is
a practical program featuring the theory of administration combined with
the practice of professional administration. For example,
recent classes include electives like local government road show,
executive management, information systems, E-commerce, GIS and
non-profit financials.
