Academic Holds:
These occur when students are admitted without full admission status. That is, if you failed to adequately complete full matriculation requirements, such as failure to take the GRE, failure to submit letters of recommendation, failure to provide a letter of intent, etc. – when one is admitted without full status.
Secondly, the graduate school will automatically place you on academic hold if your GPA falls below 3.0 for that semester. Three continual semesters below 3.0 will mean automatic dismissal from the graduate school.
Course Loads:
If you are a full-time employee, it is advisable for you to carry only 6 credit hours. One graduate course is equal to two undergraduate courses.
Attendance:
Most MPA classes are taught at night and are 3 hours. This is equivalent to missing one week of classes during the daytime.
Directed
In a graduate program directed readings are utilized for two purposes. The first instance is to aid a student who is shy of one or two elective semester hours needed to graduate, and there is no appropriate class scheduled. The second instance is for those programs with a Master Thesis or Master Report. A student asks his/her major to help refine the problem issue of literature review. Since we do not have such a requirement, any directed reading failing to meet the first standard must be tied to some extreme, extenuating circumstance, given that we provide a sufficient variety of graduate classes at NKU.
Transfer credits:
Students have to inform the MPA director during their first semester in the program of any course that they would want the director to consider for transferring to the program. A maximum of 40% of your program may consist of transfer work. All such work must be from a regionally accredited institution, taken for graduate credits and posted to a graduate transcript, and completed with a B or better.
Other type of curriculum activities (e.g. training programs, continuing education, workshops) will not be considered for transfer course unless they are transcribed from a regionally accredited institution and meet all the other criteria as de
